Cleandra Bay Lodge

What to expect?

Welcome to Cleandra Bay Lodge, our beloved home and B&B. We have four guest rooms, two on each floor. We want you to feel at home here. Our kitchen is your kitchen. Feel free to use the fridge, freezer, kettle, stove, toaster, coffee maker, and all the kitchenware at any time. There’s a large table for four in the dining area, a bar counter for two, and if needed, you can sit in the sun room at the big coffee table.

Outside, there’s a large table for 4-6 people, perfect for enjoying meals with stunning views when the weather is good. Speaking of which, our sunsets are incredible. If you’re lucky with the weather, you won’t want to miss them.

We have a miniature pinscher, and we love guests with dogs, but only in the ground floor rooms. We’re always happy to welcome your furry friends.

Parking is free for up to five cars. Please park at an angle on the right side after the entrance, up to the garage. Guests can use the washing machine and dryer, with prices varying by program and time of day (up to 1 euro at night, 4 euros for drying during the day).

We do have Wi-Fi, but it’s not very strong as it relies on mobile internet. Due to the wooden floors, you may occasionally hear your neighbors, so we ask everyone to be considerate of each other. Each floor has two guest rooms and one bathroom, shared if both rooms are occupied. We maintain high standards of cleanliness in all bathrooms.

Our room rates are the same whether for one or two people, with a maximum of two people per room. In the colder months, we do increase prices to cover heating costs. Due to personal reasons, we can’t host guests for more than five consecutive days.

Please be mindful of quiet hours from 22:00 to 08:00.

Check-in is anytime from 15:00. We understand that situations can vary, so late-night check-ins are possible by prior arrangement, to ensure we can explain how to find your room. However, for check-ins after 22:00, no showering or kitchen use (except for making tea or instant coffee) is allowed.

We have an electric piano and guests are welcome to play it.

The weather can be quite variable. It can be very rainy at times. If hikers face difficulties, they should not hesitate to ask for help. If we have the time and opportunity, we pick up our hiking guests within 3 km and drive them if necessary.

Living here means living mindfully. Without central heating, gas, or sewage systems, we've learned to create a comfortable life that blends the best of modern conveniences with sustainable living. Our showers are powerful and inviting, but do keep in mind that hot water is limited. It’s heated by solar energy, which can be scarce in Ireland, or during off-peak electricity hours at night. So, we share it thoughtfully among ourselves and our guests.

Like most Irish and many Europeans, we do not heat our home in the summer. However, we have very warm blankets. By the way, all guests particularly note the comfort of our beds.

We live in a remote area. The nearest shop is in the center of Ardgroom village, which is a 5-minute drive or about an hour's walk. In the village, you can find something simple to eat. For a proper good restaurant, the nearest options are in Castletownbere and Lauragh, both about a 20-minute drive away.

If you have any questions, feel free to call or write to us. We’re always happy to have you as our guest.

Looking forward to welcoming you,

The Cleandra Bay Lodge Family
